Two arrested after assault and robbery in Sompting
Police are investigating two connected assaults in Sompting on Wednesday (November 28).
Officers were called to Crowshaw Recreation Ground, Sompting at 9.45pm where a fight had broken out between a group of about 15 youths and four young people. One of the youths, a 17-year-old boy, was hit on the head with a bottle by a boy from the larger group. An 18-year-old girl was assaulted by the same boy and another girl from the larger group, and had items stolen.
At 10.30pm a man entered Sompting mini market on Seadown Parade and stole some alcohol. He was chased by the shop owner, a 47-year-old man to the junction of Silverdale Road and Browness Avenue where the victim was hit round the head with a bottle, stabbed in the back, and stabbed to the stomach.
Detective Constable Katie Clack said: "The shop owner suffered a wound to his back and a head injury and thankfully his injuries aren't as serious as first thought. However this is a violent assault on a shop keeper and we are appealing to anyone to might know something.
"Those responsible are believed the part of the large group from Crowhurst Recreation Ground."
