We arrested six people and seized 15 vehicles as Operation Scramble officers targeted people who use e-bikes and e-scooters illegally and antisocially in #Epsom over two days last week.
Seven illegal e-scooters, seven illegal e-bikes and a car were seized on the dedicated operation tackling the problem. This included a modified pedal cycle which was travelling at 40mph on the pavement and did not stop for officers. Led by a police motorcyclist, our officers pursued the rider and unfortunately for him but fortunately for the people of Epsom, this dangerous and antisocial bike no longer belongs to this reckless rider!
While out and about in force, we spotted various other offences and made an arrest for possession with intent to supply drugs, locating kilos of cannabis, thousands in cash and multiple weapons when a follow-up search of the suspect's home took place.
Sgt Heather Regan, from Epsom and Ewell safer neighbourhood team, said: “We know that the criminal and antisocial use of e-bikes is causing concern within our local communities. This operation is about responding directly to those concerns and taking visible action against the people responsible. It was great to host the first Op Scramble in Surrey Police, targeting this issue in Epsom, and fantastic that so many vehicles were seized.
"E-bikes can be used legitimately, but when they are used by criminals to commit offences, evade police or behave dangerously and antisocially, we will take action. Our message is simple: we will not tolerate crime being committed using e-bikes in our communities.
"We will continue to target those responsible, disrupt their criminal activity and, where appropriate, seize and destroy vehicles being used unlawfully" If you have concerns about nuisance riding in your area, please continue to report it to us, by completing this form. Your information helps us identify hotspots, deploy resources effectively and take action where it is needed most. |
