Local policing in Haslemere

It’s been a busy week in Haslemere for local Police Community Support Officer John Savage. 

If you’ve been out in the town, you might have seen John on his signature bicycle patrolling the streets and chatting to residents about their concerns. Here’s a few of the things John’s been up to this week:

On the topic of shoplifting, John has shared this update: “We’ve worked together to foster a really positive and information-led partnership with businesses in Haslemere which has been reflected in our activity at the Magistrates’ Court. 

“With the roll out of the new DISC system, which enables businesses to easily share information with police including CCTV footage, our team is able to more quickly collect evidence to help us identify suspects and pursue criminal investigations. I’d encourage businesses to keep reporting to us, even if we are not immediately able to identify a suspect, all information helps build an intelligence picture that can support future investigations.”

John’s hard work in this area has this week been commended by Inge Dunbar, President of Haslemere Chamber of Trade and Commerce, who spoke about the impact of shoplifting in the town and how PCSO John Savage’s visible presence is helping businesses. John has recently been recognised for his outstanding contribution in Haslemere when he was awarded PCSO of the Year at the 2026 Chief Constable’s Annual Awards.
