Knife Crime Awareness Week 2026 |
Dear Resident, Today marks the beginning of Sceptre and Knife Crime Awareness Week which are national campaigns by the NPCC (Sceptre) and The Ben Kinsella Trust (KCAW). We take part in Sceptre activities twice a year in May and November which forms part of our approach to tackling knife crime, such as stopping the sale and supply of knives solely intended to hard, safeguarding and supporting communities, and working with partners. Knife Crime Awareness Week is a reminder that preventing violence starts with awareness, conversation, and action, which is important all year round.
We know that starting that conversation may feel difficult, but it can make a real difference. If you’re concerned that a young person may be affected by knife crime, taking the time to talk calmly, listen without judgement, and offer support could help protect them. The Ben Kinsella Trust have free resources for parents and carers, including a guide about how to start conversations about knife crime and how you can report concerns safely. You can find them here: https://benkinsella.org.uk/resources-for-parents/ Speaking up about concerns around knife crime can be challenging, but sharing information could save a life. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999, or for any other concerns you can contact us via 101, live chat on our website, or DM us. Did you know you can also support anonymously via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111, or through Fearless for young people. They are completely anonymous, and can be contacted either by phone, or by their website Fearless.org We also have a StreetSafe tool to anonymously report public places where you feel unsafe. This helps police and partner agencies identify areas of concern and improve community safety.
