Update following the death of a man in Guildford |
||
|
Following the discovery of a man’s body in Guildford this morning (Friday, 9 January), Surrey Police launched an investigation to identify the man and establish the circumstances surrounding his death. Just after 7.15am this morning (Friday, 9 January), Surrey Police was called to Hazel Avenue by a member of the public who had discovered a man’s body outside a residential address. While formal identification is yet to place, officers now believe they have identified the man, who is in his 30s. The man's next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with them. Following our investigation today, the death is being treated as unexplained, but we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances. We are preparing a case to pass to the Coroner. Surrey Police is also making a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to police contact with the deceased prior to the incident. Hazel Avenue was closed whilst officers conducted their investigation and has reopened this afternoon. Thank you for your patience in respecting the cordon and also for your support through our public appeal for information. We’re grateful to everyone who contacted us. We’re no longer appealing for information and we’d like to reassure you there is no wider risk to the public. | ||
