A man has been jailed after a stabbing in Addlestone. Shortly before 3pm on Sunday, 27 April, Joseph Sewell entered a barber shop on Station Road in Addlestone and stabbed a man in the back before fleeing the scene. He fled the scene but was identified and arrested later that day. Sewell and the victim were known to each other, but the motivation for the attack remains unclear. The victim, a man in his 30s, received medical treatment for a small wound and was discharged the same day from hospital. Sewell, 23, (08/07/2002), of Egham, was charged with attempted GBH and possession of a bladed article the following day. He pleaded guilty to both offences and on Friday, 19 September at Guildford Crown Court he was sentenced to 30 months’ (two and a half years) imprisonment and ordered to pay a victim surcharge. The knife was forfeited and destroyed. Inspector Ian Nash, Borough Commander for Runnymede, said, “Fortunately, incidents involving weapons such as these are rare in Runnymede, although we appreciate how concerning they are for the local community. In this instance, the parties involved were known to each other, the defendant was swiftly apprehended by police, and the weapon he used has now been destroyed. “Throughout 2025 we have been using a hotspot policing approach to reduce serious violence and anti-social behaviour in areas with relatively high concentrations of crime. Over the past six months we have used a wide range of powers and police resources to tackle crime in Addlestone, which is one of 15 designated hotspot areas across Surrey. By focusing activities in these areas, crime is prevented in both the hotspots and the wider geographic area. “Our priorities are the safety of Runnymede residents and enabling local businesses to thrive in a secure environment, and our targeted activities are focused on reducing crime and making your community a safer place to live and work.”
