Sheep Worrying:
Saturday 13th April 00:01 Leth Hill – 13:00 sheep killed bite marks on leg and neck.
Livestock worrying is when a dog attacks, chases, or barks at livestock animals, such as sheep, pigs, and cows. It can be fatal for the livestock animals and sometimes even for the dogs, as a farmer has the right to shoot a dog that cannot be brought under control as a last resort.
Every year, thousands of farm animals and wildlife are killed or injured by dog attacks across the country; which is why we’re taking part in Op Recall, a national initiative to try and educate people on the best way to be a responsible dog owner and/or dog walker in the countryside.
We want you to continue to enjoy your walks in our beautiful countryside; but ask that you please be mindful of the animals sharing that land with you, and that you keep your dog on a lead and under control whenever you’re passing livestock.
If you see livestock worrying taking place, call 999.
