A motorcyclist decided to perform a wheelie on Egham High Street right in front of an unmarked police car driven by PC Langtree. PC Langtree followed the motorbike intending to stop it, but the rider rode between the vehicle bollards and performed another wheelie in the pedestrianised section of the High Street. Thanks to some good work by our colleagues in the Safer Runnymede CCTV control room, the motorbike was located outside a shop, and PC Langtree was able to speak to the rider when they came outside. The rider was issued a TOR (Traffic Offence Report) for riding without due care and attention. They are likely to receive three points on their licence and a fine.

Back in 2021, we shared an appeal to locate a missing dog - Inky. We were delighted to read yesterday (on the New Haw Family Facebook Group) that Inky has been located and reunited with their owners, thanks to microchip tracing. This outcome demonstrates the importance of micro-chipping, which is also a legal requirement. Please see the link for information about getting your dog micro-chipped: rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/pets/general/microchipping/dogs

Back in September, Officers and PCSOs from Runnymede SNT visited several schools across the Borough to carry out parking patrols. The intention was to remind parents/carers/drivers at the start of the school year about the importance of parking legally, safely and considerately outside schools which get very busy with some of our most vulnerable road users and pedestrians. As a result of numerous incidents where officers intervened due to drivers stopping or parking on the yellow zig zags (which carries a £50 fine), some additional offences were identified. We recently received the Court results for two (amongst other) drivers who were reported to Court due to the number or seriousness of offences they had committed: One driver was found to have previously been disqualified, and not re-applied for their licence. They received the following: Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence (non-endorsable) – Fine £220.00, Costs £90.00, Surcharge £352.00; Low tyre tread – Fine £440.00, 3 points; No MOT – £220.00; Parking on yellow zig-zags outside a school – no separate penalty. Total: £1,322.00 and three points.  A second driver was found to have no insurance and was an unsupervised provisional licence holder. They received the following:

No insurance - Surcharge £372.00, Costs £90.00, 6 points, Fine £660.00; Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence - fine £220.00, no additional points; Parking on yellow zig zags outside a school - Fine £50.00. Total: £1,392.00 and six points. This shows the importance of Police enforcing simple things like drivers parking on yellow zig-zags outside a school. If we hadn’t been there, these unlicensed/uninsured drivers in poorly maintained vehicles could still be doing the school run on a regular basis, putting the safety of children and other road users at risk.
